Sick Of Coffee? No Way!
This week is promising to be a long one, and it’s barely begun.
Having kids home sick from school is rough for everyone, but it’s a triple strike when you’re single, and work for yourself. With no spouse to share the burden, there’s no question about who has to stay home to look after him; it’s me. And there’s no point calling my boss and saying that I’ve got a sick kid … I am the boss, and I already know.
Number 1 son, my 11 year old, called home from school yesterday sounding very pale (yes, I know you can’t really sound pale, but all of you parents knew what I mean, correct? I thought so.) He seems to have some sort of virus, he has a headache, and is shivery, and just generally feels rotten.
For much of the day I actually can work at home; I’m still trying to source coffee for the store, which of course is something of a basic. I’ve got it down to a couple of suppliers, but I want to start with small orders and see how my customers enjoy the one I choose. I’d prefer not to feel locked into one supplier for the long-term by arranging large shipments, but of course many suppliers prefer not to deal with customers that are too small. So we’ll see.
I’m also spending way too much time browsing the web sites of restaurant supply stores. I tell you, the same way guys like the Victoria Secrets catalog, cooks like restaurant supply stores. There are so many things I see that look like they’d be useful, but I’m trying to stick to a very tight budget.
Oops, I hear #1 son calling … hopefully it’s time for some chicken soup if he feels like eating. I’d like him to get some food inside him, I’m sure it would help him feel better.
